Soup Bowl benefit tickets now on sale

TERRE HAUTE — Tickets are now on sale for the third annual Soup Bowl Benefit to support the Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank. This popular evening of music, conversation, soup and bread is scheduled for Feb. 2 in the Maryland Community Church atrium from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

The event will feature two seatings to accommodate the growing demand for tickets. The first seating is from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and the second seating is from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Artisans from throughout the Wabash Valley have spent the last few months crafting more than 500 handmade bowls for the event. Attendees select a bowl to fill with soups prepared by area chefs and take the bowl home with them after the event.

“Area artists, chefs, sponsors and volunteers come together to make this event special. Through a simple bowl of soup, a spotlight is shone on the issues of hunger in our community and friends and neighbors are encouraged to share their abundance with those in need,” said Sister Mary Montgomery, chairwoman of the Soup Bowl Benefit.

Those attending will purchase a handmade bowl for $25 and have it filled with soup. For children and those who do not wish to purchase a handmade bowl, tickets for dinner are $6.

Maryland Community Church is at 4700 S. Indiana 46 in Terre Haute. Seating and handmade bowls are limited.

Tickets are available at the Catholic Charities office or the Terre Haute Deanery Pastoral Center, both located at 1801 Poplar St. in Terre Haute or by calling 812-232-1447 or 812-232-8400.

The mission of the Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank is to feed hungry individuals in Clay, Greene, Knox, Parke, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo counties through a network of emergency food distribution member agencies.

Ninety food pantries and soup kitchens feed the needy thanks to support from the Foodbank. In 2012 more than 2.5 million pounds of food, the equivalent of 2 million meals, were distributed to these locations for distribution to the needy.
