Church group serves up chili on Election Day

MARSHALL, ILL. — Marshall First United Methodist Church at 702 Plum St. in Marshall, Ill., is planning its annual Chili Day on Election Day, this Tuesday.

The event, organized by the church’s United Methodist Women,  will serve up soups, sandwiches and desserts. Enjoy breakfast, lunch or supper in the church’s Fellowship Hall.

A variety of baked goods, crafts and plants will be available for purchase throughout the day, as well. Food may also be purchased for carry-out.

Breakfast will be served from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. for a freewill donation.

Lunch and supper will be served continuously from 11 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. The lunch and supper menus are the same: chili or broccoli cheese soup; either ham salad, cheese spread or hot dog; dessert and a drink.

Tickets may be purchased at the door or at the church office. The adult meal will cost $8. A meal of sandwich or soup, chips, dessert and drink will cost $4 for children age 10 and under. A la carte items are also available for $3.

Attendees can also purchase items like jewelry, scarves, purses, Christmas ornaments, baskets and other items to decorate or to use as gifts.

Items can be purchased — through this catalog-only sale — from the UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) SERVV Consignment Catalog.

The United Methodist Women are mission oriented and raise the majority of their funds through this annual Chili Day event.

The funds are used to help with local, regional and global causes including BRIDGE, Cunningham Children’s Home, Baby Fold, Light House Mission, MAYN, Marshall Food and Clothing Center, Power Lunch, Wesley Foundation, Lessie Bates and Neighborhood House.

For more information contact Dianne Rardin at 217-826-5596 or the church office at 217-826-8041.
