With a full month behind us in the Master point races at the Terre Haute Bridge Center, it looks like a re-run of past years. Sharon Strassler, a two-time past winner leads Laura Bright who has won it eight times. Then comes Nancy Hanley; she was tops in 2005 before she was a Life Master. Since then she has been the top player in many other categories at the club. Rounding out the rest of this prodigious group are Pat Koger and Sue May with only a point separating them for fourth. The same thing for sixth place with a single point separating Pat Price from Phyllis Peters. Eighth place down is Tana Holt, Joan Chervenko, Joanna Hebermehl, Carolyn Steinbaugh, Mona Sternfeld, Noreen Bryant, Sharon Winters, Gloria Trader, Margie Kintz, Connie Shattuck, Arlene Luchsinger, Susan McCarthy, Diane Scott, Ruth Ann Tooloose, Mary Lunsford, Mary Alice Spahr, Nancy Shriner, Gretchen Weston and Sharon Mason.
In the men’s race it’s perennial leader (now up to 14 times) Fred Ervin. In second place is the new kid on the block, John Clark. Don Reuland leads the rest of this die-hard group: Tom Roberts, Milt Van Reed, Frank DeSanto, Rick Kleinheksel, Mark Greenwell, Henjin Chi, Floyd McWilliams, Charles Parks, George Woodason, Jim Jennings, Charles Bryan Sr. and David Halsted.
Winners Jan. 25-30

The following games will be played this week in the Bridge Center at 303 S. 14th St. It has been the center for bridge for nearly 50 years. We hope to grow for a few more decades but we need the help of all bridge players in the area. Come to look it over; ask your friends who play here. Sit down with your own partner or ask us and we will pair you up with a congenial partner who will play your system. Then make your own decision. There is no charge for first-time players. After that, it is just a modest $6, sometimes a dollar more if it is for charity or a special game. That is the only time you ever pay. You do not have to be a member. We are a not-for-profit club with an elected board of directors who oversee the operations. New members of the board are added each year at the annual membership meeting scheduled the first Tuesday in March. Lets get acquainted.
Monday: open game, 1 p.m.; Fun Bridge, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Tuesday: open game, 7 p.m.
Wednesday: open game, 10 a.m.; Brown bag lunch, noon.
Thursday: open game, 7 p.m. Call (812) 232-999 first to see if we have enough players.
Saturday: open game, 1 p.m.

PAW PRINTS: Want to adopt a pit bull? Here are some helpful hints
Despite the bad publicity, pit bulls can be very lovable and loyal family dogs. There is a great deal of confusion associated with the label “pit bull.” The most accurate definition refers to two breeds: the American pit bull terrier and the American Staffordshire terrier. Some people include other breeds in this group because they share similar head shapes and body types.
