Bridge: Nov. 1, 2009

TERRE HAUTE — The Top Twelve Teams is a monthly Swiss team game involving a dozen partnerships paired on a rotating basis. This event in the Terre Haute Bridge Center is nearing the conclusion for the 25th consecutive year. The leaders with three months remaining are the defending champions, Annette Clark and Don Florida followed by a triad of Laura Bright, Sharon Strassler, and Sharon Winters. Poised to strike are Leroy Breimeier and Pam Corrona, Floyd McWilliams and Phyllis Peters, Henjin Chi and Richard Easton, and Jane and Jim Gormong. In pursuit are Joanna Hebermehl and Milt VanReed, Fred Ervin and Mona Sternfeld, John Clark and Judy Harris, Tana Holt and Mary Lunsford, Frank DeSanto and Jim Dickey, and a second Triad of Betty Piper, Barbara Carroll, and Richard Bernardoni.

The inaugural event was contested in 1985 and consisted of the following roster; Abe Ashkin and Jenny Davis, Richard Easton and Janet Horton, Alberta Ervin and Nancy Pillon, Fred Ervin and Mike Welch, Jane and Jim Gormong, Joanna Hebermehl and Milt VanReed, Don and Eileen Lucas, Sue May and Doris Wetzel, Anne and Maurice Nugent, Sue Parks and Alan Sackrider, and Elizabeth Pidany and Sharon Strassler.

Winners Oct. 12-17

Monday afternoon - first, Joan Chervenko and Sue May; second, Laura Bright and Janet Horton: third, Don Reuland and George Woodason; fourth, Pat Koger and Sharon Winters.

Monday evening fun bridge - first, Sunny Cohen and Bill Hawk; second-third, Sandee Frey and Shirley Haggard; Judy Price and David Sively.

Tuesday evening - first, Laura Bright and Sharon Winters; second, Janet Horton and Milt VanReed; third, Don Florida and Jim Gormong; fourth, Fred Ervin and Jane Gormong.

Wednesday morning - first, Phyllis Peters and Diane Scott; second, Judy Harris and Sharon Winters; third, Noreen Bryant and Tana Holt; fourth-fifth, Joan Chervenko and Alice Goodyear; Laura Bright and Janet Horton.

Thursday evening - first, Jane and Jim Gormong; second-third-fourth, Nancy Hanley and Pat Koger; Margie Kintz and Connie Shattuck; Charles Bryan, Jr. and Frank DeSanto.

Saturday afternoon - first-second, Laura Bright and Fred Ervin; Janet Horton and Don Reuland; third, Joanna Hebermehl and Milt VanReed.
