12th Annual Bakersfest coming up in Vermillion

Cayuga — The Vermillion County Indiana Homemakers are sponsoring the 12th Annual Bakersfest. Any resident of Vermillion County is eligible to enter the contest.

The theme for the event is “Favorite Recipe with Cornmeal.” Enter any favorite recipe. The item must be baked, (no microwave) and contain at least a half cup cornmeal. Items that require refrigeration are not eligible for judging. No unbaked cream cheese, sour cream, cream pies or recipes containing meat. Each item must be accompanied with a recipe card. Entrants must be present to win.

There is a $1 entry fee per item. Participants may enter one item per class, in one or more of the following 6 classes: cookies, breads, cakes, muffins, pies or miscellaneous.

First place in each class will win $5. The Reserve Grand Prize Winner will receive $15 with $25 going to the Grand Prize Winner.

The Bakersfest will be Oct. 28 at the Vermillion County Fairgrounds building in Cayuga. Registration will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

For those attending Bakersfest, a catered lunch will be served at a cost of $6 per person.

Pre-registration for the luncheon is required and are due no later than Oct. 23. Checks can be made out to Vermillion County Homemakers and mailed to Purdue Extenion, P.O. Box 250, Newport, IN 47966.
