Rockville library to present ‘Miami Nation’ discussion

Rockville — Steve Buchanan, will speak at Rockville Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 20. His topic will be “Miami Nation of Indian Tribe.”

Buchanan (Ayapia) grew up in Speedway Indiana and is a Speedway High School graduate. He moved to Parke County in 1987 and resides at Raccoon Lake. He is the chairman of the Parke County Miami Land Pow Wow Committee and has studied under The Miami Spiritual Leader Wap Shing (Red Cloud) for more than four years. He is now the acting Spiritual Leader for the Miami Indians of Indiana. He has also been on the Miami Business Committee and is active with the Miami Drum Mississinewa, and Twigh Twee Singers.

The presentation on the Miami Nation of Indians Tribe will include:

n Miami Indian history

n Miami Indian Legend and Folklore

n Miami Lifestyle and Tradition

n Prominent Miami Indians

n Preservation of the Miami Nation of Indian Heritage
