BIRTHDAYS: Aug. 5, 2012

TERRE HAUTE — • Joseph “Bill” Samm and Rose Scott celebrated their 90th birthdays on Aug. 15 and 21 respectively. Scott has lived most of her life in Vigo County and retired as a registered nurse from St. Anthony’s and Terre Haute Regional hospitals.

Samm has lived most of his life in Indiana and retired from Standard Oil. They will be celebrating with family and friends today with a mass at St. Margaret Mary’s church.

• Francis Wilson Slaven will observe her 100th birthday Tuesday. She celebrated Saturday during an open house in the Calvary Temple at Monticello.

Slaven is a life-long resident of Terre Haute. Born on Aug. 7, 1912, to Frank Miller Wilson and Myrtle Ella Stevens Wilson (deceased) she is one of 15 children with brothers, Archie and Leroy Wilson living in Terre Haute, and sister, Catherine Sinclair in Rosedale.

Slaven married Charlie William “Bill” Slaven on Aug. 22, 1928, in Terre Haute, (he died in 1972) and they had six children: James (Murietta) Slaven, Lafayette, Robert (Eileen, daughter-in-law, deceased) Slaven, LaGrange, Quince (son, deceased) wife Rev. Mary Slaven, Terre Haute, Marilyn Schaffer (Rev. Jim Schaffer, son-in-law, deceased), Monticello, Joyce Ridge (daughter, deceased) husband Bill Ridge, Terre Haute, and William (Edie) Slaven, Tampa, Fla.

Slaven has 22 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, 28 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
