The Vermillion County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is hosting the SWCD annual meeting on Feb. 12. After a free dinner, courtesy of the SWCD's Conservation Partners, and short business meeting, the audience will be entertained by farmer/humorist Kevin Cox.
Cox and his wife, Brenda, live near Brazil, where they produce corn, soybeans, wheat and beef. He finds humor from his experiences as a conservation-minded farmer as well as serving his community in a range of roles over more than 25 years. Cox has a passion to make a difference in the world and will attempt to challenge you, motivate you and make you laugh.
The purpose of the business meeting is to report to the citizens of Vermillion County the activities of the SWCD for the past year. In addition, two supervisors will be elected to the SWCD board of supervisors. Any individual of voting age or a representative of a firm, company or corporation that owns or rents land/property located within the county may vote.
The SWCD's Conservation Partners fund programs and services that are not covered by government budgets. In addition to supporting the annual meeting, our Conservation Partners allow us to offer meals at field days and workshops during the year, as well as pay for promotional programs to promote the services the district offers. Our 2013 Partners include: Bank of Indiana, Butler Busby Hicks Land and Auction, Ceres Solutions, Farm Credit Services, First Financial Bank, MJS Insurance, New Ross Grain, Old National Bank and Wright Implement Company. Our Conservation Partner program is handled through the Vermillion Co. Community Foundation and all donations are welcome.
This year's SWCD annual meeting will take place in the Dana Firehouse on Indiana 71 in Dana. The doors will open at 6 p.m., with dinner served at 6:30.
