Extension to offer basic food preservation workshops

TERRE HAUTE — Purdue University Extension will be offering basic food preservation workshops at Clabber Girl Culinary Classroom in Terre Haute. Two sessions will offer different methods.

Many families are looking for ways to preserve fresh foods for later use as a way to cut costs. Pressure canning and water bath canning are two ways to preserve food and enjoy the freshness at a later time, in addition to saving a little on the grocery budget.

The class is limited to 15 individuals, based on a first- come, first-served basis. The cost of each session is $25. Participants will leave with samples. The pressure canning workshop will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m April 10.

Participants will participate in hands-on activities and canning of in-season vegetables.

Water bath canning will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. April 16. Participants will can strawberry jam.
