Audubon Society meeting to Return to the Wild

TERRE HAUTE — The March 17 meeting of the Wabash Valley Audubon Society will feature six real live birds of prey from Return to the Wild. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. and be in Room A, B, C of the Vigo County Public Library at 7th and Poplar streets. All are welcome and no reservations are required. Return to the Wild is a hospital for birds of prey in the hills of Brown County. This nonprofit corporation was founded in 2001 by Patti Reynolds for the purpose of rehabilitating injured and orphaned birds, and educating the public about their inherent value to the environment.

The guests for the evening are all residents of the hospital and will give the public a chance to see them up close and personal. Come meet: Patrick (American Kestrel), Onslow (Barred Owl), Oliver (Peregrine Falcon), Rhiannon (Screech Owl), Gumbo (Rough-legged Hawk) and national bird and symbol — Thunderin’ Ben (American Bald Eagle). This special presentation is sponsored by the Audubon Society in cooperation with the Vigo County Public Library and The Big Read. This year’s book is My Ántonia. This is a free program and families are welcome. Return to the Wild will gladly accept monetary donations to help with its mission at the program. Come and learn about these magnificent birds and what can be done to help injured birds.
