Spring wildflower hike Saturday at nature preserve

TERRE HAUTE — The Ouabache Land Conservancy, a nonprofit land trust, invites the public to a spring wildflower hike of the Jackson-Schnyder Nature Preserve, west of St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, on Saturday.

Participants should meet at the Preserve at 3:30 p.m. (after the St. Mary-of-the-Woods Earth Day celebration). The Preserve’s namesake, Marion Jackson, will lead hikers through the bountiful woodland wildflower specimens that include: wood poppy, wild larkspur, wild geranium, nodding trillium, prairie trillium, toadshade trillium and many others.

In addition, flora species of the tallgrass prairie restoration will be highlighted.

To get to the Jackson-Schnyder Nature Preserve: Take U.S. 150 to St. Mary’s Avenue; turn west; drive past the St. Mary-of-the-Woods College main entrance; continue west; turn left on Bloomtown Road; go under the railroad; and turn right on Concannon Avenue. Just past the bridge is the roadside entrance (on the right) to the Preserve.

This is a free program. Visit www.ouabachelandconservancy.weebly.com for more information.
