Chi Omega chapters raise $7,600 for Make-A-Wish

TERRE HAUTE — The Chi Omega chapters at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Indiana State University raised $7,600 for Make-A-Wish, which will help grant the wish of a 6-year-old girl named Sandy.

Chi Omega’s annual Make-A-Dish for Make-A-Wish took place March 17 at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Many restaurants throughout Terre Haute donated to the buffet-style dinner. There also was a silent auction and a children’s carnival hosted by the Chi Omega sisters.

Sandy was diagnosed with an inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord due to the spread of infection when she was just 2 weeks old. She wished for a TV and DVD player.

Chi Omega, the world’s largest women’s fraternal organization, selected the foundation as its national charity in 2002.

Since then, the organization has contributed more than 430,000 volunteer hours and raised more than $6.8 million to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

“We truly value our alliance with Chi Omega,” said Development Associate Amanda Orabutt. “The organization’s enthusiasm for volunteer efforts and fundraising really helps us delight wish kids and their families while they’re facing some very challenging times. Chi Omega members help make our mission possible.”

Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

Founded in 1980 when a group of caring volunteers helped a young boy fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer, the foundation is now the largest wish-granting charity in the world, with 62 chapters in the United States and its territories.

With the help of generous donors and nearly 25,000 volunteers, Make-A-Wish grants a wish every 40 minutes and has granted more than 200,000 wishes in the United States since its inception.
