TERRE HAUTE — Senior Citizens Picnic scheduled at Forest Park

On May 25 Forest Park in Brazil will be alive with the sounds of the Area Day Senior Citizens Picnic sponsored by Area 7 Agency on Aging and Disabled. The picnic will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 2:15 p.m. Bruce Borders will bring his “Tribute to Elvis” to the stage. Melony Brown will share her singing talents. Karaoke will be included.

Lunch is being donated by Sunset Harbor (which includes: Meadows Home Health Care, Meadows Manor North, Meadows Manor East, and Canon Inn). The menu will be: ham and cheese sub with lettuce, tomato, mustard, and mayonnaise on the side, kidney bean salad, chips and brownie. Ice cream with toppings and popcorn as snacks will be provided by other contributors.

Tickets are $8 per person to be purchased by those 50 and older. The ticket price includes: goodie bag, lunch, snacks, an opportunity to play small games, door prizes, entertainment and an opportunity to visit service/product information booths. Tickets also can be purchased at 1718 Wabash Ave., in Terre Haute from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. No ticket costs will be refunded after Monday.  

Reservations are required and must be made on or before Friday. Send check or money order payable to WCIEDD, Inc. to: Area Day Reservation, 1718 Wabash Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47807. Van transportation is available in Parke, Vermillion and Vigo counties on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost is $8 for the round trip; this is in addition to the $8 for the  picnic. New group offers support to moms

Young women who face the ever-changing demands of motherhood now have a new outlet that provides encouragement and support.

MOM 2 MOM meets at 6 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month; the next meeting is this Thursday at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, North Campus (formerly Northside United Methodist Church).

The non-denominational group hopes to provide encouragement to moms who understand the joys and struggles of parenting.

Organizers hope to provide a safe place for mothers to participate in group discussions on parenting issues, exchange tips, and a place where moms can find constructive feedback.

Mothers can build new friendships through the planning of play dates and special times out just for moms.

Edgar Extension to host edible centerpiece workshop

The University of Illinois Extension, Edgar County Home, Community and Education Group will conduct a training entitled “Make Your Own Edible Centerpiece” at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the multi-purpose building at the Edgar County 4-H Fairgrounds. The program is free and open to the public.

An instructional DVD will be shown, followed by a demonstration. Learn to make a beautiful centerpiece using fruit and accessories.

Style show features Wabash Valley celebrities

Local well known personalities will highlight this year’s fashion show sponsored by the St. George Ladies Society on Wednesday at the St. George Social Center, 1900 S. Fourth St.   

Heading the list of models is Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett and his wife, Pam.

Also part of the lineup are WTHI News director/ anchor Susan Dinkle, WTWO anchor Dana Winklepleck, Ms. Indiana State University Ayanna Sykes and Ms. Crossroads of America Lauren Mnayarji.

Additional models will show off latest gowns, dresses, cruise and casual wear, along with accessories.

In the forefront of styles will be fashionable trends from Carson’s Department Store, Honey Creek Mall and Rogers Boutique, 530 Wabash Ave.

A table for eight can be reserved for $126 or individual tickets are $16. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.  

There will be a silent auction and raffle. Food and soft drinks are included in the price.
