‘Google for Genealogists’ program at Vigo Library

TERRE HAUTE — Most genealogists are using 10 percent or less of the resources behind Google when it comes to research. The Wabash Valley Genealogy Society will be presenting a program, “Google for Genealogists,” featuring Thomas MacEntee live through the Internet, on Feb. 11.

Participants can learn how the other 90 percent of Google components can be leveraged for better search results. The meeting will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Vigo County Public Library in the lower level conference rooms A, B and C.

In addition to providing search functions, Google allows users to access maps, books, journals, abstracts, patents and other resources.

MacEntee is a professional genealogist specializing in the use of technology and social media to improve genealogy research and to connect users with others in the family history community.

Utilizing more than 25 years of experience in the information technology field, MacEntee writes and lectures on the ways in which blogs, Facebook and Twitter can be leveraged to add new dimensions to the genealogy experience.

As the creator of GeneaBloggers.com he has organized and engaged a community of more than 2,000 bloggers to document their own journeys in the search for ancestors.
