Strengthening Families program coming up

TERRE HAUTE — CHANCES for Indiana Youth will begin a free program — Strengthening Families — for families who want to improve their family dynamics in areas such as communication, discipline strategies and setting limits. The goals of the program are to prevent teen substance abuse and other problem behaviors, to strengthen parenting skills and to build family strengths.

Sessions include workshops for youth and parents and a free family dinner.

There is no cost to attend. Strengthening Families is designed for families of all kinds with youth ages 10 to 14. Whether a traditional family, single-parent, blended or other type of household, Strengthening Families is intended to help youth and caregivers develop skills and understanding that lead to a stronger, more positive and stress-free household.

The group will meet from 5:30 to 8 p.m. for seven Thursdays beginning Feb. 14 at the Booker T. Washington Community Center. A light dinner will be served followed by separate sessions for youth and adults. Families will spend a session participating in activities together. Child care will be provided for the youngest children.

For more information about the program contact Brandon Halleck or Julie Wheatley at CHANCES for Indiana Youth at 232-5190 or email Julie@cfiy.org.
