Beekeeping class coming up Jan. 4, 5

The Indiana Beekeeping School is planning its 16th Beginning Beekeeping class on Jan. 4 and 5. This class covers all aspects for backyard beekeeping and requires no previous knowledge or experience. Student graduates will begin keeping bees in the summer of 2013.

The Beekeeping School has generated a resurgence in hobby beekeeping, having made 1,000 beekeepers, with students attending from as far away as New York. Students complete classroom seminars and attend construction workshops, and in the spring they can complete hands-on training at a working organic bee farm in central Indiana. After the class, they join graduates from all previous classes for ongoing training and mentoring via Internet groups.

The class is conducted simultaneously in Indianapolis, in person, and Terre Haute, via video link. Check-in is 4 p.m. Friday, but advance registration is required online at www.Indi

anaBeekeepingSchool.com. The class completes by 4 p.m. Saturday. Tuition is $120 with a discount for additional family members. Optional beehive kits will be delivered to the class for use in the workshops.

The class is suitable for youths and adults. In Terre Haute, the class is at the Ivy Tech Community College Workforce Development Center.
