Sign up for Master Naturalist Program

INDIANAPOLIS — The Friends of Fort Harrison and the interpretative naturalist staff at Fort Harrison State Park will play host to the Indiana Master Naturalist Program beginning Jan. 10.

Classes will be each month from 6 to 9 p.m. at Park Visitor Center. Each class will focus on a different natural or cultural topic ranging from natural history to general conservation to the history of Fort Harrison.

Two registration plans are available for the Fort Harrison Master Naturalist Program: Option A, $150, includes all 12 classes, all course-related materials, IMN state accreditation, a 2013 Annual Park Pass and a 2013 Friends of Fort Harrison State Park membership; option B, $10 per class, includes all 12 classes, all course-related materials and IMN accreditation.

Participants must complete 10 of the 12 classes and complete 30 hours of volunteer service time to become a certified Indiana Master Naturalist. Registration deadline is Jan. 10. Students must be 18 or older to register.

The mission of the Indiana Master Naturalist program is to bring together natural resource specialists with adult learners to foster an understanding of Indiana’s plants, water, soils and wildlife, and to promote volunteer service.

For more information about the Indiana Master Naturalist program at Fort Harrison State Park, contact the Visitor Center at 317-591-0122 or by email at jcummings@dnr.in.gov.
