Some 163 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Masons will be elevated to the 33rd Degree in a special ceremony at Philadelphia on Tuesday. The event will take place during the annual meeting of the Supreme Council of Scottish Rite Freemasonry.
Among those honored are two Masons from Terre Haute Scottish Rite who were elected a year ago at the annual meeting in Boston. They are Glen R. Miller, 49 Ferndale Drive, Terre Haute, retired educator; and Kevin S. Williams, 11099 S. 250 E., Clinton, retired Eli Lilly/Scottish Rite Assistant.
The 33rd Degree is awarded for outstanding achievement within the fraternity or for contributions to others reflecting credit on Freemasonry. The ceremony will be in the Academy of Music Theater.
A Vesper Service today will open the three-day meeting which will also include executive and general sessions at the Marriott Philadelphia Downtown Hotel and the Academy of Music Theater. Supreme Council members will be joined by leading Freemasons from throughout the United States and around the world.
In attendance will be more 2,000 33rd Degree Masons and their wives from the 15 northeastern and midwestern states comprising the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction.,
Following the conferral of the 33rd Degree on Tuesday, the names of those who have been selected to receive the degree next year at Chicago will be announced.
