Kalorama Gardens Open Garden Days set

Marshall, Ill. — Kalorama Gardens Open Garden Days are slated from noon to 5 p.m. July 11-12.

Admission is free to the the 1.5-acre gardens at the home of owners Steve and Linda Gard. The event features a variety of gardening styles and plants and more than 180 varieties of daylilies, many unusual and miniature plants in hypertufa containers, woodland plantings, and rock gardens. It also offers unique garden art throughout the gardens.

Each day, visitors will have the opportunity to win a large individually cast, hand-painted concrete garden leaf.

Kalorama Gardens is in Marshall, Ill. If traveling west on I-70, turn off on Exit 147, Marshall/Route 1. Turn left or south on Route 1 for 1.3 miles. At the third light, the intersection of Route 1 and Route 40, turn right on Route 40 for 0.8 mile. Watch for the small vinyl Kalorama Garden signs posted at intersections. Turn right onto the Clarksville Road. Proceed on the Clarksville Road for approximately 1.8 miles, crossing over I-70. After crossing over I-70, go down a hill and at the top of the hill, turn left onto 1500 Street. Continue to follow the vinyl Kalorama Gardens signs into the subdivision.

Since the gardens are at the owners’ home in a residential area, visitors are asked to be considerate of the neighbors and not block driveways.
