Camp Krietenstein Staff Association Reunion set July 18

In summer 1919, a group of local Boy Scouts camped out on property near where Croy Creek meets the Eel River in Clay County. The campsite quickly became a popular destination, and in a few short years the property became the local Boy Scout Council’s Summer Camp, Camp Krietenstein. Current and former Boy Scouts, leaders and other volunteers who have ever served on the staff or in support of Camp Krietenstein will gather at Camp K near Center Point on July 18 for a reunion and kick-off for the newly established Krietenstein Staff Association.

Formed through the efforts of a few loyal and dedicated Scouters, the association’s purpose is to rekindle the fire of the Scouting spirit, provide, establish or encourage lifelong scouting relationships and provide for the continuum of Camp Krietenstein traditions. Having served thousands of Wabash Valley Boy Scouts since becoming an official Boy Scout Camp in 1922, Camp Krietenstein owns a rich and storied history and has been the summer home to hundreds of Scouts and volunteers who have staffed and supported the camp.

The July 18 Krietenstein Staff Association Reunion opens at 2 p.m. to anyone who ever served on the Camp K staff or in support of the camp and its programs. Attendees will tour the camp, enjoy reliving lots of memories, gather for a steak-fry dinner to learn about the Association, new camp facilities and programs, and, of course, more fellowship. The day will conclude with a traditional Camp Krietenstein campfire — although reunion guests are welcome to spend the night.

Cost for the Camp Krietenstein Association Reunion is $20 and includes dinner and Association dues.

To make a reservation or for more information about Camp Krietenstein and the Association visit the local Boy Scout office at 501 S. 25th St. in Terre Haute or call (812) 232-9496.
