Lincoln reading programs set in July

The Library of America has awarded free Lincoln in American Memory Readers to Marshall Public Library to facilitate public programming. Each Thursday evening in July, the library will conduct discussions about the series of booklets.

Participants will have the opportunity to read and discuss one of five 48-page booklets on different aspects of Abraham Lincoln’s life at each of the programs. Discussions will be led by volunteers from the community. Register to attend the discussions and check out a Lincoln in American Memory Reader prior to the corresponding discussion. Booklets are limited in quantity, so register early. The schedule is as follows:

• Lincoln as Self-Made Man, July 2, 6:30 p.m., led by Damian Macey

• Lincoln as the American Redeemer, July 9, 6:30 p.m., led by Macey

• Lincoln and His Critics, July 16, 6:30 p.m., led by John Hasten

• Lincoln the Literary Genius, July 23, 6:30 p.m., led by Paula Ross

• Lincoln: Legacy of the Great Emancipator, July 30, 6:30 p.m., led by Tracy Resch

Register for each program separately by calling the library at (217)826-2535 or by visiting its Web site, www.marshallillibrary.com. Marshall Public Library is at 612 Archer Ave. in Marshall, Ill., and is handicapped-accessible. Allow 48 hours if special arrangements are needed.
