Annual Spring Fling Goat and Sheep Sale coming up

The Midwest Goat Producers announce the schedule for its third annual Spring Fling Goat & Sheep Wether Sale. This year, the group has expanded their private treaty sale and workshop to two dates and locations. The first one is April 11 at the Wabash County 4-H Grounds near Mount Carmel in southeastern Illinois, and the second Spring Fling Sale will be April 25 at the Vigo County Fairgrounds near Terre Haute.

Many breeds of goat and sheep wethers, along with young, does, ewes, bucks and rams, will be offered through a private treaty sale. Along with the sale, the Midwest Goat Producers are sponsoring seminars and workshops throughout the event to help prepare 4-H members, FFA students and all goat producers for goat production or the show ring.

The Midwest Goat Producers’ Spring Fling private treaty sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Central time with all transactions conducted between the buyer and seller. The goat wethers offered for sale will be born after Oct. 1 and sheep wethers will be born after Jan. 1. Young quality goat does & bucks and sheep ewes & rams will also be available to increase the breeding herd or show string. Some dairy and pygmy goats may also be offered for sale. Animals should be available to fill the needs of any show project or breeding herd.

The Midwest Goat Producers Spring Flings will each begin at 10 a.m. Central time with sessions on “Basic Care & Nutrition of Goats,” “Fitting Your Goat for the Show,” “Showmanship Techniques” and “What is the Judge Looking For?” presented throughout the day. Time will be allotted in between each of the seminar topics to allow participants the opportunity to buy goats, learn one-on-one from experienced goat producers, and browse through goat supplies. Concessions will be available.

The Midwest Goat Producers is an organization of goat owners from central and southeastern Illinois and west-central Indiana. It was established in January 2006 to meet the needs of producers of all goat breeds. The group provides a forum for the exchange of information and ideas about goat production, coordinates marketing options; and works with 4-H, FFA and local agencies to promote projects and enterprises related to goat production. More information about the organization and updates on the wether sale and clinics are available at www.midwestgoatproducers.org.
