“Having Fun with Family Genealogy: the Nation’s Fastest Growing Hobby” will be presented from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Rockville Public Library.
Loran Braught, professor emeritus of Indiana State University, will share interesting ideas about researching family heritage.
Braught is an active life member of the Indiana Genealogy Society, founder of the 10-county Wabash Valley Genealogy Society and longtime member of the Iowa Genealogical Society.
Those who attend can get a free genealogy CD that he highly recommends to help organize and share your family information. From a paper-and-pencil approach to scanning family photos into a computer for safe storage and easy display, and learning to organize the thousands of family records available around the nation or the world, genealogy is a marvelous activity for anyone. Research confirms that genealogy is an excellent mental exercise and popular topic at family gatherings.
Braught plans to remain after his presentation to do some Parke County family research for a relative seeking information about her Rockville Fulwider ancestors who arrived from Virginia about 1850 and later moved to Warren County, Iowa. He and Parke County genealogist Alberta Butler will be available to help others with their family research after the presentation.
