A pond management workshop, hosted by Izaak Walton League Chapter 200, is 8:45 a.m. to about noon Saturday at the lake north of Indiana 340 near the Clay/Vigo County line.
Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., with the program running until around noon (rain or shine). Speakers will discuss pond weed control, as April-May is the best time to treat ponds for weed control. Participants may bring pond plant samples to be identified. Fish stocking and pond biology will be covered by Debbie King, district fisheries biologist with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Fish & Wildlife. Mark Evans, Purdue Extension educator, will discuss pond management resources.
Pre-registration is requested by Wednesday. A $10 fee will include refreshments and informational handouts. The workshop is sponsored by Sycamore Trails Resource Conservation and Development Council’s education committee, Purdue Extension-Clay and Owen counties, Clay County Soil & Water Conservation District and the Izaak Walton League Chapter 200.

Club seeks info from Cotillion participants

National Road seats board members
Leon Goble and Belinda Roddy will represent Clark County, Ill., on the board of the the National Road Association of Illinois.
The association recently conducted its annual meeting in Effingham, Ill.
Sheila Martin, NRA-IL president, thanked her fellow board members for their dedication and commented that membership in the association had grown significantly in the past year. Board members were elected from six counties.
Richard Beabout of Clark County retired from the board.
Known as the “road that built the nation,” the National Road was created by President Thomas Jefferson in 1806. Construction of the road in Illinois began in 1830. Today, the Illinois section covers 164 miles from Marshall to East St. Louis including Clark, Cumberland, Effingham, Fayette, Bond, Madison and St. Clair counties.
NRA-IL is a not-for-profit organization that preserves the history and promotes tourism for this scenic byway.
Grant to preserve historic sites
Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana has received a $17,353 award for a countywide survey to document historic sites, structures and landscapes throughout Parke County.
The survey will cover 444 square miles, and is expected to document about 1,200 sites for the state’s historic sites and structures database.
The grant for Parke County was one of 23 federal grants the Department of Natural Resources awarded for historic preservation to 25 Indiana communities.
The DNR helps strengthen Indiana’s historical and cultural heritage through annual federal grants it administers to local communities and not-for-profit groups that these organizations put toward preservation projects.
