Riverton Parke student wins competition
Riverton Parke High School junior Dylan Davis recently won the Parke County Americanism and Government Test competition. The test is part of a statewide contest sponsored locally by the Rockville American Legion. Last year, nearly 30,000 Indiana high-school students took the test.
Davis scored 90 out of a possible 100 on the test, but did not qualify for the state finals.
He is the son of D.J. and Mary Jo Harkrider of rural Bloomingdale. Jim Tarter of the Rockville American Legion administered the test to students at all three county schools.
Groups adopt school as outreach project
Prairieton Chapter 163 and Terre Haute Chapter 43, Order of Eastern Star adopted Farrington Grove Elementary School again this year as an outreach project.
This project was started by the Prairieton Chapter four years ago to take the place of giving each other Christmas gifts.
The members of the Prairieton Chapter agreed that it would be better to help a child with their winter needs.
This year the Terre Haute Chapter became involved with this project. Each year this project has grown in size.
