Attend fall foliage hike at nature preserve

The Ouabache Land Conservancy, a nonprofit land trust) invites the public to a fall foliage hike of the Jackson-Schnyder Nature Preserve on Oct. 20.

The hike is to celebrate the three-year anniversary of the preserve’s dedication as a state nature preserve.

Those interested should meet at the preserve at 1 p.m. Dr. Marion Jackson, the preserve’s namesake and author of “101 Trees of Indiana,” will lead hikers through the tallgrass prairie and approximately 25 species of trees found on the 15-acre preserve.

To get to the Jackson-Schnyder Nature Preserve, take U.S. 150 to St. Mary’s Avenue, continue west past St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, turn left on Bloomtown Road, go under the railroad and turn right on Concannon Avenue. Just past the bridge is the roadside entrance (on the right) to the preserve.

The land trust’s mission is to protect natural lands and farmlands from development in perpetuity.

Ouabache Land Conservancy serves the Indiana counties of Clay, Fountain, Montgomery, Owen, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo. For more information about the Ouabache Land Conservancy go to www.ouabachelandconservancy.org.
