Bridge Column: March 7, 2010

TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute Bridge Club president Joanna Hebermehl urges all members to attend the annual membership meeting on Tuesday. The evening starts with a potluck carry-in at 5, meeting at 6 and bridge game at 7.

Sharon Strassler still leads in the women’s Master Point Race. Laura Bright, last year’s winner, is a very close second. Pat Price leads the rest of the group: Pat Koger, Nancy Hanley, Tana Holt, Phyllis Peters, Joan Chervenko, Sue May, Mona Sternfeld, Joanna Hebermehl, Sharon Winters, Diane Scott, Carolyn Steinbaugh, Gloria Trader, Connie Shattuck, Margie Kintz, Mary Lunsford, Sharon Mason, Noreen Bryant, Susan McCarthy, Arlene Luchsinger, Ruth Ann Tooloose, Nancy Shriner, Mary Halsted, Mary Alice Spahr and Gretchen Weston.

No suspense at all in the men’s division. Fred Ervin has garnered one fifth of the total points won by the men this year. Milt Van Reed is second and Tom Roberts third, both of whom earn many points when sitting opposite Ervin. Don Reuland is a solid third. He does well with most any player. Frank DeSanto leads the rest of the 18 male players earning points this year. They are John Clark, Charles Parks, George Woodason, Rick Kleinheksel, Mark Greenwell, Floyd McWilliams, Charles Bryan Jr., Jim Jennings, Henjin Chi, Charles Bryan Sr., David Halsted, David Sively, Bill Shriner and Bill Hawk.

An early note to those who have been hoping for lessons on learning the game of bridge, or how to play it better: Mary Lunsford will be available starting in April on many Wednesday evenings. For details call the Bridge Center at (812) 232-1230.
