The last spot shoot at the Lost Creek Township Conservation Club was about a month ago and was sponsored by the Sycamore Ridge Strutters Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. The proceeds benefit the Jakes and WITO Programs. The recent event was a huge success, and the next one is Saturday.
Lost Creek has several different shooting ranges. The spot shoot, pistol and long rifle ranges are available. On the rifle range, Ron and Deb Little were working as a team, sighting a colt military style rifle chambered to shoot 223s. Deb was on the spotting scope directing Ron after each shot. Point being, they were both enjoying the outdoors as a team.
Stacy and Cinda Rueber were the backbone of the event along with other volunteers who deserve credit. They also served an outstanding breakfast.
Fourteen-year-old Travis Long was enjoying attending his third spot shoot and saying with a smile that he had won one in the past. He has been a member of the Lost Creek club for about a year and shoots the rifle range also. He loves the outdoors, especially when camping.
There were about 15 women of the outdoors there last month with most of them standing on the firing line shoulder to shoulder with those rednecks. You don’t want of these women shooting at you, for they were winning hams and turkeys with the best of them. I’ve never seen so much pink being worn on a firing line.
Sarah Weil, Chrissie Tennant, Jessica Ellis, Elizabeth Wright and Crystal Haskett were just a few that made those guys get real squint-eyed while taking aim. They made them earn their winnings.
Twelve women were standing on the line for the all-women’s shoot, and if you ask me, they were all winners.
Marilyn Schoffstall was on No. 6 target with the winning shot, and the buckshot BB came within a quarter-inch of the center.
My son, Seth Bayless, won one of the shoots with his second shot of the day. It was his first spot shoot, and he makes his parents awfully proud.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources will conduct a deer hunt for the disabled Nov. 19 at the Fairbanks Landing Fish and Wildlife Area, which is located along the Wabash River in northern Sullivan County.
DNR secretary Kim Tibbett said at least 10 people participate each year, helped made possible by 25 volunteers. The age of the hunters range from age 13 to mid 60s.
Hunters arrive at 6 a.m. and are greeted with coffee and donuts and receive a hot lunch after being picked up at their blinds.
Some hunters return to hunt in the evening, while others call it a day.
Past sponsors of the event include: Complete Rentals, Sullivan County QU, All-American Tent and Awning, NWTF-Wabash Valley Longbears, McDonald’s, JEnny Smith (Mary Kay Consultant), G2 Taxidermy, R&S Custom Guns, Gander Mountain, Wal-Mart and Outback Steakouse.

Redneck Quaker: Mascari gets thrills from turkey hunting
Annie Mascari is a beautiful, vibrant, 26-year-old lady that loves the outdoors.
She comes from a large family of four brothers and a sister and lives the teachings of good family values.
Olivia Rightly let me know that I “should talk to my teacher at St. Pats School, Ms. Mascari, because she’s taken a turkey.”
As I shook Annie’s hand, I could feel the energy she has for life. As proof, the first time she went up in an airplane, she jumped out of it!
She’s also quite the hunter. Mascari picked up a used PSE bow for $30, one for a left-hander because her left eye is dominate for shooting. The Page Arrows are her choice for broadheads. -

Waterfowl hunting season opens across Indiana
Dust off the calls and decoys, Indiana’s waterfowl hunting season began Oct. 15 in the North Zone; Oct. 22 in the South Zone; and will begin Saturday in the Ohio River Zone.
Waterfowl hunting season in Indiana is divided into three zones: North, South and Ohio River. Each zone has different a season for ducks and Canada geese. Light (snow/Ross) geese, brant and white-fronted geese are regulated statewide. -
