Audition for ‘Meet Me in St. Louis’

TERRE HAUTE — Community Theatre of Terre Haute will stage auditions for the musical “Meet Me In St. Louis” at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

Auditions will take place on the main stage at the theater, 1431 S. 25th St. Songs are by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane, with book by Hugh Wheeler. The musical was first made popular with the 1944 movie starring Judy Garland.

The Community Theatre production will be directed by Josh Hoffman, with musical direction by Dan Rodriguez and Kurt Perry. Performances will be March 2-4 and 9-11, 2012.

The musical tells the story of an American family in 1904, when the World’s Fair was in St. Louis. The Smiths, who have four daughters, live a comfortable life. Memorable musical numbers include: The Trolley Song, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, and A Day in New York.

As the plot unfolds, the audience understands the family’s love and respect for each other, tempered by the genuine humor.

The cast includes six young adult men, four young adult women, two girls, four men and two women.

Ensemble roles include trolley passengers, party guests, ballroom couples and carolers.

People interested in volunteering for behind-the-scenes opportunities such as lights, sound, props, costumes, ushering or other duties are also welcome to attend auditions and fill out volunteer forms.
