REDNECK QUAKER: Young lady has enthusiasm for the outdoors

TERRE HAUTE — I don’t know who is glowing with the most pride, Lily or PaPaw Mike Burch. You be the judge from that picture.

Greg and Stacey Hutchison are doing a fine job of raising this 7-year-old lady of the outdoors, with grandparents Mike and Linda Burch being one step behind them.

This was Lily Hutchison’s first year to start squirrel hunting, and this is the proof she is a great shot. A second-grader at Farmersburg Elementary, she also turkey hunted this year but did not get a shot at one. She loves to fish with Papaw as well as playing sports like softball and basketball. Yes, she deer hunts also.  Collecting stuffed animals — they’re all posed at the head of her bed — is Lilly’s passion.

Lane, her older brother, and Lily raise sheep as she likes to ride 4-wheelers with her twin brother C.J.

This youngster will do good in life from her upbringing in the outdoors. I’m proud of you Lilly.

The turkey banquet Sept. 24 was a great success. It was sponsored by the Sycamore Ridge Strutter Chapter and held in the MCL Cafeteria banquet room. The food was outstanding.

This is all about good fellowship as well as supporting your own sport. If it wasn’t for people like this, many common animals of today would be extinct. They are putting millions of dollars back into what they love.

To start the program, all veterans were brought up front and honored with a commemorative hat pin and a free raffle ticket on a gun.

Silent auctions and raffle tickets keep the evening interesting, but the most fun came from Johnny Swalls auctioneering services. He does a great job keeping people upbeat and having fun.

The next banquet is April 14 next year, and we will let you know the location when it is decided.
