TERRE HAUTE — Indiana State has two track and field teams ranked in the nation’s top 20 at the same time for the first time in history.

Polls released Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association put the Sycamore women in 18th place and the ISU men 20th. It’s the highest ranking for the men’s team since the USTFCCCA began its current system in 2008 and the fifth straight week the ISU women have been ranked.

Last year the ISU men were 28th and the women 29th in the sixth week of the rankings.

Thanks to Brandon Pounds, Greggmar Swift and Chris Fields the ISU men jumped 10 spots this week. Pounds is ranked first in the nation in weight throw, Swift fifth in 60-meter hurdles and Fields 27th in weight throw.

Felisha Johnson leads the women’s team by ranking first in the country in weight throw and second in shot put. Katie Wise is 39th in the 60-meter dash.

• Engineers move up — Rose-Hulman has moved up one spot in the d3hoops.com men’s rankings that were released Monday.

Rose-Hulman is currently 18th, its best men’s ranking since a 13th-place ranking in 1999. The Engineers are the only Indiana school getting votes in the poll.

Currently 21-2, the Engineers have clinched a share of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference title for the first time since 2001. They can clinch an outright championship with a win on Wednesday at Earlham in the annual John Mutchner Cup game. Rose-Hulman would also be host to the HCAC postseason tournament by winning the regular-season championship.

Nate Gissentanner came off the bench and scored all of his career-high 20 points in the second half Saturday as Rose came from behind for a 63-62 win at Defiance, just the second time in history the Engineers have won 21 games in a season.

• Pomeroys win twice — At Clinton, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods came from behind in both games for home victories over Brescia and Oakland City last week.

The Oakland City game was Senior Day for the Pomeroys.
