Linton got off to another winning start in Class A football Friday,
defeating Eastern Greene in Southwest Seven Conference action.
Linton had 497 yards in total offense and Eastern rushed for 155 yards in the opener for both teams as the Miners bested the Thunderbirds for the 12th time.
Austin Karaszia was 11 of 14 in passing for 258 yards and four touchdowns, while Koye Kaiser netted 140 yards on 10 carries, scored once and had one of Linton's two pass interceptions.
Dane Rupska and Zane Hayden each scored twice for the Miners with Rupska getting the first score for the Miners and Hayden getting the last one.
The Miners held a 20-0 lead at halftime with Karaszia passing to Grant Stamm, who then lateraled to Kaiser, who went about 30 yards to complete the 55-yard scoring play.
Eastern had three long drives and got to the Linton 11-yard line once failed on fourth-down plays three times.
Linton is on the road again for its second game, meeting long-time rival Sullivan.

“These are my first OTAs. I missed these last year, so I think it’s great. It’s great to get on the field with the defense and trouble-shoot some stuff. Obviously, some of us ran some of this stuff [offense] at Stanford [under new offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton]. But to get out there with the defense and trouble-shoot some stuff is good,” Luck said Wednesday as the team wrapped up its first week of on-field voluntary practice sessions. -
North baseball pulls away from South in sectional opener
In high school baseball little things mean a lot, and the crack in the door doesn’t have to be open very wide.
Terre Haute North burst through that crack in the bottom of the second inning Wednesday evening at Terre Haute South, scoring seven two-out runs and going on to a surprisingly easy 12-2 victory over the host Braves. -
