BRAZIL —
Northview’s Scott McDonald will be honored next month as the District Coach of the Year by the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association.
The Knights finished 21-9 last spring, beating Terre Haute South 4-3 in the sectional championship game to snap South’s five-season sectional streak.
McDonald will be honored at a banquet Jan. 25 at Sheraton at Keystone Crossing in Indianapolis. Other district winners will also be announced, and five men — former major leaguers Billy McCool and Kenny Lofton, former Chesterton coach Jack Campbell, retired umpire Gene Butts and former announcer Dave Niehaus — will be inducted into the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame.

• Patriots survive — At Terre Haute North, the host Patriots nearly lost a double-figure lead in high school girls play on Saturday before downing Castle 60-54 in overtime.
North appeared to have the game well in hand with a 16-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, but an injury and foul trouble helped the visiting Knights mount a rally. After two missed one-and-one opportunities left the door open, the visitors tied the game at the buzzer on a basket by Kelsey Garron.
Even though Castle got the first basket of the extra period, however, the Patriots outscored their visitors 10-2 the rest of the way.
Nicole Anderson had a game-high 23 points and Lindsay Clark added 12 for North, while Zuriel Sanders had 18, Rebecca Nunge 12 and Morgan Saiko 11 for the Knights.
