METRO GOLF ROUNDUP: Myers wins CCTH title

TERRE HAUTE — Phillip Myers won the Country Club of Terre Haute club championship for the third time on Saturday, besting Derek Depuydt in a playoff.

Myers and Thomas Goss had the lead in the rain-shortened event after 18 holes, each shooting 71.

Depuydt was two shots behind and tied Myers with a 32 on the front nine in the fnal round while Myers carded 34. Both players had 39 on the back to finish with 73 scores for the day and 2-over-par 144 scores for the tournament.

Myers won it with a par on the fourth playoff hole.

Both players had birdies on the first extra hole. Depuydt chipped in from 40 to 50 feet for his birdie.

Both players parred the second hole and took bogeys on the third to go to the fourth hole. Myers won it with his par putt after Depuydt's shot for par hit the pin.

Myers played for Terre Haute South and is a recent graduate of Purdue University. He recently qualified to play in the Indiana Open and says he hopes to play in the city tournament.

Dick Vining — a former champ and runnerup — shot 146 to take third with Mike Toney fourth and Goss fifth.

The tournament was shortened to 36 holes due to rain on the first day.

Winners of the other flights — all 18 holes — were Preston White, Don Schroeder and Lou Harmening.

The senior club championship is scheduled for Aug. 4-5 and the junior interclub event will be played at the Allendale course Aug. 3.
