TERRE HAUTE —
West Vigo recorded its first victory of the season in girls high school golf Tuesday, defeating White River Valley 234-267 at River Bend at The Landing.
The Vikings had a season-best score and two of the four players had season and career bests in the match played in warm, sunny conditions.
Ciara McClain led the winners with 54, her second-best score of the year. Alainie Shepard had a personal-best 59 while Olivia Butterman tied her personal best with 60 and Kristina Smith carded 71.
Makenzie Schantz had 63 for the Wolverines, now 2-2 for the season. Paige Hoffeditz had 65 and Joshlyn Held 66 for WRV.
“Winning is a nice change,” said West Vigo coach Sylas Smith.
“The girls have come a long way and played well today. We’ll continue to keep working to improve,” he said.
The 1-7 Vikings will be hosts for the Vigo County match to be played Thursday at River Bend. Action should begin at 5 p.m.
They have three matches next week, meeting Linton, South Vermillion and Terre Haute North and North Central.
“The girls will be rewarded with practice tomorrow,” said Smith.
