TERRE HAUTE —
Rose-Hulman freshman Orion Martin missed honorable-mention All-America honors by just one position at the NCAA Division III swimming national championships Friday.
Martin placed 17th in the men’s 100-yard butterfly with a time of 49.22 seconds. The top eight finishers qualify for All-America honors and placements nine through 16 earn honorable-mention accolades.
Senior John Craig Huster of Terre Haute added a 34th-place finish in the men’s 100 butterfly with a time of 50.35.
Martin also will compete in the 100 freestyle today and Huster’s remaining event is the 100 backstroke today.
Softball
n Change made — Due to cold temperatures in the forecast, there has been a change in schedule for the weekend series between Missouri State and Indiana State at Price Field.
The two teams were orginally scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
However, due to cold temperatures and a chance of rain Sunday, the teams will now play a single game at 4 p.m. today before playing the normally scheduled doubleheader at noon Saturday. All three games will still be played at Price Field.

• ISU recruit among top underclassmen — Greensburg’s Bryant McIntosh, an Indiana State recruit, was one of the top 15 underclassmen chosen Thursday by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
The IBCA picked a 15-senior first team plus 135 honorable-mention selections and a 15-player underclass team with 115 more juniors, sophomores and freshmen earning honorable-mention status.

• Marshall girls honored — Marshall’s girls team was honored recently, with three players breaking five school records and two of them achieving scoring milestones. Coach Kathy Miller was also named Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Co-Coach of the Year for Region 14.
Kaydie Grooms set records for most points in a season (559), most field goals in a season (215) and more free throws made in a season (129) for the 25-2 Lions. She scored her 1,000th point Jan. 19 against West Vigo and currently has 1,104 for her career, fifth on the all-time list.
Ariana Kuhn established a career record for assists (288) and also joined the 1,000-point club against West Vigo. She finished her career with 1,050 points, seventh-best all-time.
Breah Keim had 10 3-pointers in a game against Cumberland on Jan. 21 for another school record. Team awards were as follows.

• Warriors feted — The Casey boys team celebrated its 2012-13 season at a banquet recently.
School records set during the season included 18 free throws in a game and 593 points in a season by Brandon Wolfe, who currently is sixth all-time with 1,344 points, and 328 assists in a career by Zack Murphy, whose 125 during the season was fourth-best all-time;

Baseball
• Curry honored by MVC — Sophomore Landon Curry led the Indiana State baseball team with four runs scored during their series victory inside the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis and has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office.
The Uniondale, Ind., native and Norwell High School product scored both of Indiana State’s runs in their 2-1 victory over the Golden Gophers on Friday night, including the game-winning run following a throwing error after Curry stole third base. The ISU sophomore added a two-run double in the ninth inning of the rubber match Sunday, capping a 9-4 Indiana State victory to clinch the series.
For the week, Curry also drove in three runs and stole two bases. Heading into action on Wednesday, the ISU centerfielder leads the conference with nine stolen bases. In the classroom, Curry carries a 3.81 GPA while majoring in Business.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Curry and the Sycamores open Missouri Valley Conference play this weekend, hosting Southern Illinois from today through Sunday.
Academics
• Engineers smart — The Rose-Hulman athletic department leads the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with 62 academic all-league awards from the fall and winter 2012-13 academic year, according to results released this week by the league office.
Rose-Hulman combined for 40 academic all-conference during the fall sports season and 22 more during the winter campaign.
The men’s track and field team led the way with 10 honorees, followed by football with eight. Men’s cross country had seven award winners, men’s soccer and volleyball tallied six each, and women’s soccer added five award winners for the Tom Bohlsen Academic All-League honoree list. The honor is named in recognition of the league’s first commissioner, who served the role from 1998-2008.
Academic all-conference student-athletes must follow the criteria of carrying a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average entering their playing season and be in at least their second year at the institution.

Colts hoping for more high marks on draft picks
A year ago, the Indianapolis Colts received high marks for the impact players the team added through the NFL draft.
Of the 10 players selected, five ended up either starting or seeing extensive playing time (quarterback Andrew Luck, tight ends Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen, wide receiver T.Y. Hilton and running back Vick Ballard) during the Colts’ 11-5 season.
