Colts announce roster moves

TERRE HAUTE — The Indianapolis Colts announced a couple of roster moves Wednesday night.

The Colts waived rookie cornerback Thad Turner and signed veteran free agent cornerback Marcus McCauley. McCauley is a fourth-year veteran who has started 10 of 27 career games. Originally a third-round pick by the Vikings in 2007, he has also played for the Lions, Saints and Redskins.

Sitting out of Wednesday night's practice were wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez, middle linebacker Gary Brackett, cornerback Terrail Lambert, weak side linebacker Clint Session, defensive end Keyunta Dawson, tight end Colin Cloherty, center Jeff Saturday, offensive tackle Charlie Johnson, rookie offensive guard/center Jacques McClendon, offensive tackle Adam Terry and safety David Caldwell.

Approximately 6,500 fans watched the Colts go through their next-to-last night practice of camp Wednesday. The temperature dropped nearly 15 degrees after a rain storm passed through before the start of practice.

Indianapolis will have a special teams practice at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. The Colts' next full practices will be Friday (9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.).

Plays of the night were turned in by two defensive starters, strong safety Bob Sanders and strong side linebacker Philip Wheeler.

During the early portion of Wednesday night's practice, Sanders made a leaping interception of a pass from quarterback Peyton Manning in the back of the end zone during goal line drills.

Later in the practice, wide receiver Reggie Wayne didn't take too kindly after a collision with Wheeler at the end of a pass play. Wayne got up and flipped the ball to Wheeler afterwards.

“Just a little brotherly tap,” defensive end Robert Mathis joked about the collision later.
