TERRE HAUTE —
Rose-Hulman and the city of Terre Haute will serve as hosts for the Gibson Family NCAA Division III Pre-National Meet today at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course.
The 8-kilometer men’s race will start the action at noon, with the 6K women’s race beginning at 12:45.
The field features 37 institutions from 14 states. Teams will venture to Terre Haute from as far away as Oregon, California, Texas and Maryland.
The men’s race features five nationally ranked teams and nine squads ranked in the top nine in their NCAA evaluation region. The women’s race includes three nationally ranked teams and 12 squads with regional rankings.
The Gibson Family Pre-National Meet also has been nominated for the “Division III National Game of the Week” honor on the NCAA Division III Facebook page.
Teams will run the exact course that will be used for the 2012 NCAA Division III national championships Nov. 17.
Auto racing
n Hines prevails — At Pontoon Beach, Ill., Tracy Hines won the feature race Thursday in the first night of the U.S. Auto Club Gold Crown Midget Nationals at Tri-City Speedway.
Hines won his heat and led all the way in the 25-lap main.
Rain wiped out the second night of the event Friday, so it will wind up tonight.
