TERRE HAUTE —
Ben Menich pitched a four-hit shutout Sunday at Art Nehf Field as Rose-Hulman defeated Carthage 8-0 Sunday to take the rubber game of a three-game series in nonconference college baseball.
The Engineer senior allowed just four hits and three walks, getting 14 ground-ball outs and three strikeouts, and his teammates supported him with two runs each in the second and fourth innings and four more in the bottom of the eighth.
Hank Akard and Patrick Klima had three hits each, Akard getting two RBIs and both scoring twice. Bobby Newman drove in four runs, three of them on an eighth-inning double, while Jordan Chipka had a hit, a run and a leaping catch to rob a Carthage player of a hit.
Rose-Hulman is now 3-6 and has home games Saturday against DePauw and Concordia. Carthage is 1-2.
Running
* “Run to Remember” — At the LaVern Gibson Championship Course, Thomas Mitchell won the 10K race and Kyle Jackson the 5K event Saturday at Hospice of the Wabash Valley’s “Run to Remember.”
Sarah Lonneman won the one-mile fun run at the event, which included 168 runners in the three races.

Bodybuilding
* Valley man fares well — At Evansville, 37-year-old Brian Boyce of Brazil took home a few awards from the 2013 Southern Indiana Body Building Championships on Saturday.
A former Tribune-Star news reporter, Boyce placed first in the men’s novice division while competing as a middleweight. He also won the welterweight title in the men’s open division.
Tennis
* Rose men lose twice — At Indianapolis, Rose-Hulman dropped a pair of hard-fought men’s matches Saturday.
Indiana University-Southeast topped Rose 6-3 in the opener before Franklin earned a 5-4 victory in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
Against IU-Southeast, senior Ben Paras led the Engineers with wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Paras teamed with senior Devon Fritz for the No. 1 doubles victory.
Freshman Matthew Conrad also contributed a win at the No. 4 singles position.
Against Franklin, Paras and Fritz won again at the No. 1 doubles position. The No. 3 doubles team of Todd Miller and Eric Teeman also captured a win.
Franklin claimed four of six singles matches to earn the team victory. Rose-Hulman winners included Nate Moore at the No. 3 position and Conrad at No. 4.
Rose (1-4) will return to action March 20 against Wabash College.
