METRO ROUNDUP: Pruett takes 3rd at Women’s Open

GREENWOOD — Former Linton and Ball State golfer Rachael Pruett was a top finisher in the Indiana Women’s Open concluded Tuesday at Hickory Stick Golf Club.

Kristi Cardwell of Kokomo won the event with a 1-under-par 141 and Michelle Nash took second with 142.

Pruett had rounds of 71 and 73 to tie Amber Pasel for third with 144.

Jamie Clark of Greencastle tied for 13th with 150 and Reece Feducia of Terre Haute tied for 16th with 151.

Baseball

• Junior Rex win, tie — At Aberdeen, Md., the Terre Haute Junior Rex 13-and-under team played twice on Tuesday in the Stars and STripes Week-Long Experience tournament and is in first place in its pool after two days of competition.

The Junior Rex tied their first game 9-09 against the North Florida Rays by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a twoout single by Wiley Clinkenbeard.

Nathan Higbie had two hits while Chris Latta, Jase Glassburn and Branson Paris each had run-scoring hits.

The Junior Rex won their second game Tuesday, 8-1 over the Buffalo (N.Y.) Cardinals.

Mitchell Howald and Levi Dowden combined to pitch a four-hitter. Latta led the offense with three hits, including two run-scoring triples, and Dowden had two run-scoring doubles while Kavan Crowell added two hits. The Junior Rex are one of only two undefeated teams left and lead the North pool at 2-0-1.

They will play Bedford Hills (N.Y.) at 8 a.m. today and the New Orleans Patriots at 3:45 p.m., at Cal Ripken Stadium, home of the Baltimore Orioles Class A Aberdeen Ironbirds farm team.

    A former Terre Haute North track and cross country standout, Ethan Page is the race director as the race falls under the reign of Page’s new company, Crossroads Events.

    Momentum was the only thing riding on Indiana State’s baseball game against Bradley on Friday. With a five-game winning streak going, ISU wanted to keep the good vibes going into next week’s Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
    ISU couldn’t do it.

    Host Terre Haute South kept its Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference high school baseball title hopes alive — and clinched no worse than second place in the process — by downing Lawrence North 4-1 in the first game of a doubleheader Friday night.
    The second game, which started after Senior Night festivities between games, ended past the Tribune-Star deadline.

    Brandon Calleja had 13 strikeouts to lead West Vigo to a 5-1 victory against South Vermillion in high school baseball Friday.
    Brandon Behringer went 2 for 4 with two RBI for the Vikings, who secured second place in the Western Indiana Conference.
    Kaden Lawson had double for South Vermillion (15-7), which finished 4-2 in the WIC.
