METRO ROUNDUP: Tickets still available for Thursday’s Indians’ game

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Indians announced Monday that Wednesday’s 6:05 p.m. game against the Louisville Bats has already been sold out, but that a special Thursday Value Night offer is available the following night.

Special packages will be sold Thursday that include a game ticket, an exclusive T-shirt, a hot dog and unlimited soda starting at $16. Those tickets can be purchased at www.IndyIndians.com or at the Victory Field box office at 501 W. Maryland St. prior to the game.

A limited number of standing-room-only tickets will be made available for the Independence Day festivities Wednesday, when gates open at 4:30 p.m. Among the activities Wednesday are special Stars & Stripes jerseys that will be auctioned to benefit the Indiana National Guard relief fund, an on-field fireworks display and the downtown fireworks display that will be visible from the ballpark.



In other baseball news:

• Junior Rex win — At Aberdeen, Md., the Terre Haute Junior Rex defeated the Babylon (N.Y.) Pride 12-2 Monday as Nathan Higbie pitched a 5-inning complete game.

Mitchell Howald had three hits, Levi Dowden two, Kavan Crowell a two-run double and Higbie, Chris Latta, Grant Dennany, Wiley Clinkenbeard and Branson Paris added run-scoring hits for the winners in a game played in the Yankee Stadium replica at The Cal Ripken Experience.

The Junior Rex play the North Florida Rays and the Clarendon Hills (Ill.) Cardinals today.



Softball

• Attitude third — At Cincinnati, the Indiana Attitude 16U team placed third at the Cincy Showcase over the weekend. The Attitude also won the Father’s Day tournament at Miss Softball America the previous week.



Attitude def. Cincy Havoc — Shelby Edington and Tori Tilley had 2 hits each and Taylor Andrew and Conner Nelson were the pitchers.

Attitude 7, Ohio Glory 2 — Allison Crick pitched a 3-hitter and Crick, Edington and Madison Hanson combined for 7 hits and 4 RBIs.

Attitude def. Sting — Christian Chambers was winning pitcher and Edington had 3 hits. Karlie Crouch and Tilley also had key hits.

Buckeye Heat 7, Attitude 1 — Edington had 2 hits.

Attitude 4, Pittsburgh Power 3 — Crick pitched a 5-hitter, Paige McClain scored a key run, Bostyn Bailey had a triple and Tilley had a double.

Cincy Magic def. Attitude — Andrew and Chambers pitched, and Edington had 2 hits.



Soccer

• Sycamore recruits lead club team to regional championship — At Saginaw, Mich., six of the incoming freshmen for Indiana State helped the U18 Cincinnati Soccer Alliance Elite team to a regional championship last week.

Future Sycamores on the team are Mackenzie Hamilton, Sydney Loesing, Sydney Lovelace, Selby Smith, Holly Sparks and Kylie Sumner. Lovelace had four goals in five matches, while Hamilton also scored twice, including a goal in the championship game.

CSA plays for the national championship July 25-27 at Rock Hill, S.C.

Indiana State’s season begins with a pair of exhibition matches on the road Aug. 7 and Aug. 11. First regular-season match is the Aug. 18 home opener against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

    Today is the day for the Thunder in the Valley, and the Terre Haute Triathlon is under new leadership in 2013, the 28th year for the event at Hawthorn Park.
    A former Terre Haute North track and cross country standout, Ethan Page is the race director as the race falls under the reign of Page’s new company, Crossroads Events.

    Damon Olds was dominant on the mound for the Braves, striking out 14 and walking just one while pitching a three-hit shutout.

  • South wins first half of doubleheader against Lawrence North

    Host Terre Haute South kept its Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference high school baseball title hopes alive — and clinched no worse than second place in the process — by downing Lawrence North 4-1 in the first game of a doubleheader Friday night.
    The second game, which started after Senior Night festivities between games, ended past the Tribune-Star deadline.

  • Bradley ends 16-game MVC losing streak against ISU

    Momentum was the only thing riding on Indiana State’s baseball game against Bradley on Friday. With a five-game winning streak going, ISU wanted to keep the good vibes going into next week’s Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
    ISU couldn’t do it.

  • PREP ROUNDUP: Calleja pitches West Vigo past South Vermillion

    Brandon Calleja had 13 strikeouts to lead West Vigo to a 5-1 victory against South Vermillion in high school baseball Friday.
    Brandon Behringer went 2 for 4 with two RBI for the Vikings, who secured second place in the Western Indiana Conference.
    Kaden Lawson had double for South Vermillion (15-7), which finished 4-2 in the WIC.
