North Central sweeps Arrows in boys tennis

TERRE HAUTE — North Central defeated Sullivan 5-0 in the first round of the IHSAA Terre Haute South boys tennis sectional Wednesday.

The Thunderbirds swept all five matches. North Central advanced to play West Vigo at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South will play in the other Saturday semifinal. The championship match will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday.



Singles — Brennan Crooks (NC) def. Luke Willis 7-5, 6-1; Jacob Chmielewski (NC) def. Jake Pirtle 6-2, 6-3; Colton Prechtel (NC) def. Luke Willis 6-1, 6-0.

Doubles — Charles Childs-Parker Drake (NC) def. Carson Willis-Austin Bobbitt 7-5, 6-4; Nolan Kinnett-Chris Stamper (NC) won 6-1, 6-1 (full Sullivan team not reported).

Next — North Central will play West Vigo in a TH South Sectional semifinal Saturday.



In other prep tennis Wednesday:

South Vermillion 4, Greencastle 1 — At Brazil, South Vermillion advanced to today’s semifinals of the Northview Sectional and improved to 10-6 for the season.



Singles — Landon Miller (G) def. Connor Blake 6-0, 6-2; Kam Weyrauch (SV) def. Michael Waddell 6-0, 6-0; Ben Cvengros (SV) def. Jason Ummel 6-1, 6-2.

Doubles — Aaron Hines-Kaden Lawson (SV) def. Adam Gerard-Christian Ritchey 6-1, 6-3; Erik Hire-Jordan Branz (SV) def. Kaleb Fleming-Alexander Asbell 6-1, 6-0.

Next — South Vermillion (10-6) plays Owen Valley at 6:30 p.m. today in a Northview Sectional semifinal. Greencastle finished 2-8.

Bloomington South 3, TH North 0 — At Bloomington, the visiting Patriots fell in a nonconference match. Anna Taylor had 18 assists for the Patriots.

Highlights – For North, Anna Taylor had 18 assists, 7 digs, 9 points; Maddy Howes had 9 points, 7 digs; Mandee Eberle had 10 points, 9 kills, 4 digs; Danielle Krupa had 13 points; Kristen Mauer had 9 points, 7 digs; Valerie Lewis had 7 points.

JV — Bloomington South won 2-0.

C match — Bloomington South won 2-0.

Next — TH North (10-5) plays in the Edgewood Tourney on Saturday.



Linton 3, West Vigo 0 — At West Terre Haute, Hannah Barton had 15 digs in a losing cause for the Vikings.

Cross country meet postponed — The Vigo County Middle School Cross Country meet was postponed Wednesday. It will take place today instead at Terre Haute North High School.

    Terre Haute North had three winners, Terre Haute South two, and the Patriots and Braves finished second and third respectively at the Evansville Regional for boys track on Thursday at Evansville Central.
    Hurdlers Cam Stewart and Cole Seward and discus thrower Lee Davis were the winners for North, enabling the Patriots to finish with 60 points to 59 for the Braves.
