QUINCY, Ill. —
Casey McCurdy’s three-run homer in the top of the first inning got the Terre Haute Rex off to a good start Sunday night in Prospect League baseball, and the visitors held onto the early lead for a 10-8 win and a split of a two-game road series against the Quincy Gems.
The Rex built a 9-2 lead by the top of the fifth inning thanks to a run-scoring single by Brett Teschner in the third, a two-run single by Alex Reynolds in the fourth and an RBI single by Nick Johnson followed by Spencer Mahoney’s two-run homer in the fifth.
But Quincy battled back, getting within a run when Nick Day and Gregory Allen hit run-scoring singles in the bottom of the eighth. Johnson had another RBI for an insurance run in the top of the ninth, however, and closer Nick Blount got the save.
