METRO ROUNDUP: Wayne Newton wins two at Paducah tourney

PADUCAH, Ky. — Wayne Newton Post 346 assured itself of a berth in Sunday’s semifinals with two more victories Friday at the Paducah Tournament for American Legion baseball.

Terre Haute used a five-run sixth inning to pull away from perennial power Columbia, Tenn., 9-5 in Friday afternoon’s first game, then came right back for a 6-4 win over Paducah Post 31.

Pete Lannoo had four hits for the day, Cody Thornton hit a homer on the first pitch to a Post 346 batter and Daniel Marlow picked up saves in both games for Terre Haute, which plays its final pool game at 5:30 p.m. today against Mayfield, Ky.

n Carmichael wins — At Putnamville, Kenny Carmichael was one of the winners Thursday in racing at Lincoln Park Speedway.

Carmichael won the main event for super stocks. Chad Boespflug won the feature for sprint cars.

Regular racing is slated tonight followed by fireworks.
