METRO ROUNDUP: ISU women’s basketball team signs freshman from Michigan

TERRE HAUTE — Shannon DeFoe is the newest member of the Indiana State University women’s basketball program.

DeFoe signed her national letter of intent on campus Friday and is eligible to play in the coming season.

“I really liked the goals that coach [Teri] Moren has for the program and I think I can be a part of them,” said DeFoe. “All four of the coaches made feel comfortable on campus and I know this is the place for me. I can’t wait for the season to get started.”

DeFoe played last season at Romulus High School in Romulus, Mich., assisting the team to a 16-6 overall record and 7-1 mark in conference play. The 6-foot-1 DeFoe averaged 8.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game for the Eagles.

DeFoe is one of five incoming freshman this season for the Indiana State women’s basketball team, joining: Kalliste Haskins of Warren Central, Kasey Johnson of Plainfield, Marina Laramie of O’Fallon, Mo., and MaKenzi Reasor of Mt. Vernon (Fortville).

The 2012-13 season begins Nov. 2 when the Sycamores host Bellarmine in an exhibition contest. The regular season opens Nov. 9 when Indiana State welcomes Eastern Illinois to Hulman Center.
