TERRE HAUTE — Rose-Hulman earned a baseball doubleheader split with a 9-2 victory in the nightcap after falling 6-2 in the opener to Alma on Sunday at Art Nehf Field.
Tim Tepe set the Rose-Hulman career hits record in the first game with a two-run home run which moved him past Matt Salisbury for the career hits record. The blast provided the only scoring for Rose-Hulman as Alma used two first-inning home runs to lead them to the win.
In the second game, the Engineers used a variety of hitters. Michael Kovacs had three hits, one a double, along with an RBI and a run to lead the offense; B.J. Zobrist added two hits, two RBIs and a run; and Chris Stemple contributed a double, an RBI and a run.
Andrew Oakley picked up the victory on the mound, giving up four hits in 5.1 innings of work with five strikeouts.
Rose-Hulman ended the day with a 8-2 record while Alma improved to 1-5. The Engineers travel to 15th-ranked Marietta for a Saturday doubleheader.
Basketball
• Diamonds win — At Vincennes, the Terre Haute Diamonds won the “Jammin’ on the Wabash” tournament, defeating Gibson Southern 26-24 and Parkview 41-8 on Saturday and Lawrenceburg 49-6, Martinsville 50-23 and Gibson Southern 46-37 in the championship game.
Team members are Mallory Bell, Brooke Biggs, Torri Brewer, Ali Danielson, Riley Davis, Lauren Hambrock, Anne Hubbard, Madison Jaeger, Lauren Perrelle and Shannon Sullivan. Coaches are Cheryl Weatherman and Lisa Davis.

ISU's Webb wins heptathlon
Indiana State’s Robert Webb captured the heptathlon Saturday at the Grand Valley State Big Meet as he totaled the second most points in ISU history while dominating the event. Webb scored 5,140 points, which is second only to former Sycamore Anthony Bertoli’s 5,189 points in 2008.
Webb, a senior, established three more personal best efforts enroute to the overall victory as he ran 8.45 in the 60 meter hurdles and 2 minutes, 50.73 seconds in the 1,000 meters while also clearing 13-1 1/2 in the pole vault. Webb entered the second day of the event in the lead with 2,893 points after winning three of the four Friday events and setting personal bests in the long jump and shot put. -
