Brown goes 8-under for third City Senior title

Steve Paquin — 7 shots back — takes second

TERRE HAUTE —

Dave Brown parlayed two sub-par rounds of golf into his third Terre Haute City Senior championship on Sunday at Rea Park.

Brown began play with 69 on Saturday and shot 67 in the final round to finish with an 8-under-par 136 score.

He had four birdies and an eagle in the final round with one bogey, going 34-33, to finish seven shots ahead of runner-up Steve Paquin, who shot 143 with rounds of 70 and 73.

Darrell Shouse and Bob Kyle each shot 145 to tie for third, with Alan Buell taking fifth with 147.

Brown finished third in the Hulman Links Club Championship last week and won two tournaments in Florida earlier in the year.

Later this month, he and Tom Jones will compete in the Senior Tri-State at Coldstone Country Club in Cincinnati. This tournament features the top eight two-man teams from Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio in a three-day tournament.

Larry Griffin had two rounds of 68 to take Super Senior honors, also shooting 136. He finished three shots ahead of Bill Verdeyen with 139.

Scott Givens shot 72 to win the first flight in the senior division, and Brent Bocard also had 72 to take second in the flight.

Chuck Adamson carded 73 to win the third flight, and Charlie Peebles was the second-flight champ.

Flight winners in the Super Senior Division were Carl Swalls and Gary Hughes.

Benny Kiburis shot well under his age — 74 and 75 — to take second in the first flight.

n Coming up — Club championships will be played this coming weekend at Rea Park and Geneva Hills.

The Old Man Scramble is slated for Labor Day weekend along with the Idle Creek Club Championship and Mundy’s Game at Hulman Links.
