Monmouth, Ill. —
Rose-Hulman’s track and field teams had 18 top-10 finishes Saturday at the Monmouth Invitational, which featured some NCAA Division I and Division II schools in addition to several Division III powers.
Sutton Coleman led the way with two first-place efforts and a school record. The record came while winning the 200-meter dash in 22.21 seconds, and he also won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.13 seconds.
Two other school records fell during the competition, as Jeremiah Edwards ran a 7.0-second 60-meter dash while placing third and Gloria Boxell bettered her own record in women’s 60-meter hurdles with a clocking of 9.75 seconds, good for 10th overall.
Charles Phillips took third in the 800-meter run in 1:58.46, and the women’s 4x200 relay team of Erin Cox, Boxell, Abby Sowers and Creasy Clauser was also third in 1:49.78. The men’s 4x200 team of Tyler Hannan, Travis Stallings, Clay Becker and Philip Koranteng was fourth in 1:32.88.
Koranteng was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.70) and Luke Winningham was sixth in shot put (46-feet-8). Eighth-place finishes were by Clauser in the 400 (1:00.23), Trey Cahill in weight throw (49- 3/4), Nathan Catt in the 800 (1:59.50) and Hannan in the 200 (23.06).
Stallings was ninth in triple jump (40-4 3/4) and 10th in the 60-meter dash (7.17). Other 10th-place finishers includsed Becker in the 200 (23.09), Chris Good in high jump (5-8 3/4) and P.J. Schulthies in shot put (45-5 3/4).
Rose hosts the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships this coming Saturday.
Volleyball
• Bluestreaks win — Martinsville’s seventh-grade team, seeded third, swept three matches Saturday to win the LEIC Tournament.
The Bluestreaks beat sixth-seeded Oblong 25-2, 27-25; second-seeded Marshall 25-16, 25-18; and top-seeded Cumberland 25-23, 25-20.
Highlights — For Martinsville, Liz Kannmacher had 20 assists, 6 digs, 2 kills, 15 points and 8 aces; Allison Lehman 10 kills, 7 digs, 3 assists, 20 points and 7 aces; Hunter Higginbotham 12 digs, 11 assists, 10 kills, 8 points and 2 aces; Caitlyn Claypool 5 digs, 4 assists, a kill, 26 points and 3 aces; Ashtyn Phillips 5 digs, an assist, a kill, 19 points and 2 aces; and Morgan Maxey 21 kills, a dig, an assist and 4 points. Martsinville has a 10-4 record.
Wrestling
• Thomas eliminated — At New Castle, South Vermillion senior Alex Thomas lost a first-round match Saturday at the New Castle Semistate to Nolan Feller of Franklin County.
Thomas trailed just 3-2 when he was pinned after 3:27. Rockville’s Jared Paxton, the other Wabash Valley competitor at New Castle, also was pinned in the first round.
Thomas was 36-6 as a senior and set season and career school records for takedowns. Paxton finished his senior year with a 35-4 record.
Basketball
• Lindenwood-Belleville 80, St. Mary-of-the-Woods 74 — At Belleville, Ill., the Pomeroys lost Saturday despite a career-high 28 points by Lyndsi Woolems.
Brittney Shaner added 18 points, Chelsea Weaver 12 and Chelsey Barron 10 for SMWC, now 9-13.
In boys high school games:
• Sullivan 54, White River Valley 32 — At Sullivan, the Arrows won their fifth straight game Saturday afternoon, defeating the Wolverines in makeup action.
James Lisman led the Arrows with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Rhett Smith had 12 points and Brooks Weszley 10.
Cade Hill had 13 points and John Ashcraft 11 for the Wolverines.

• Linton lineman honored — Blake Scharbrough of Linton was named Class A Defensive Lineman of the Year recently by Excel High School Sports.
Indiana State recruit Eric Heidorn of Avon was the 5A Kicker of the Year.

Auto racing
• Hagen prevails — At Ocala, Fla., Darren Hagen won a U.S. Auto Club sprint car feature Saturday in the windup of Bubba’s Winter Dirt Games at Bubba Raceway Park.
Hagen led all the way in winning the 30-lap main event with Bryan Clauson second and Justin Grant third. Grant set a track record in qualifying fastest in the event.
Chase Stockon won his heat and took 21st in the feature.
Saturday’s race wound up the three-day event. Rain stopped Friday’s action following qualifying runs.
