TERRE HAUTE —
Terre Haute Sonic Braves defeated Indy Thrashers 15-0 to open play in the Rose-Hulman College Tour 15U/16U baseball tournament Friday.
Leading the Sonic Braves was Marvin Pitt going 2 for 3 with two runs scored, three RBIs and was the winning pitcher. Jared Wolfe, Mitchell Clinkenbeard, Ryan Millsap and Mark Drake had two RBIs apiece.
The Sonic Braves (23-8), a continuation of the South freshman team, will play next at 8 a.m. today at the Terre Haute Men’s Senior League Ballpark. The 12-team tourney runs through Sunday.

n COA team in finals — At Orlando, Fla., COA 12 Red has reached the championship bracket of the Amateur Athletic Union national tournament and will finish at least ninth in the nation.
On Friday, the Terre Haute team beat South Florida VBC from Miami and previously unbeaten Queens Kuilan from Puerto Rico, both in two games, and lost in three games to AVA Rox from Houston, but won the tiebreaker to become pool champions. Earlier victories came over teams from South Carolina, Texas, Florida and Louisiana.
Championship-bracket play begins at 9 a.m. today against another Puerto Rican team.
Auto racing
n Cooper, Shuman win — At Putnamville, Marty Cooper and Casey Shuman were winners on Thursday’s race card at Lincoln Park Speedway.
Cooper won his heat and the main event for super stocks and Shuman was first in the feature for sprint cars.
Regular racing is slated for tonight at the track.

Hurdlers Cam Stewart and Cole Seward and discus thrower Lee Davis were the winners for North, enabling the Patriots to finish with 60 points to 59 for the Braves.

Luck having fun with his first OTAs
A year ago, quarterback Andrew Luck was unable to attend the Indianapolis Colts’ organized team activity practices due to school commitments at Stanford.
Luck, though, went on to have a stellar year for the Colts despite the lack of summer work with the team. Still, in a sense, he is a rookie during this year’s OTA workouts.
“These are my first OTAs. I missed these last year, so I think it’s great. It’s great to get on the field with the defense and trouble-shoot some stuff. Obviously, some of us ran some of this stuff [offense] at Stanford [under new offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton]. But to get out there with the defense and trouble-shoot some stuff is good,” Luck said Wednesday as the team wrapped up its first week of on-field voluntary practice sessions. - Colts hoping for more high marks on draft picks
