METRO ROUNDUP: Kevin Swindell wins Chili Bowl midget race

TULSA, Okla. — Kevin Swindell won the Chili Bowl race for midget cars for the fourth year in a row on Sunday at Tulsa Convention Center.

He took the lead on the 18th turn and led the rest of the way in the 55-lap event. Sammy Swindell was in the No. 1 starting slot to begin the race and finished second. Rounding out the top five, in order, behind the Swindells were Brad Sweet, Tim McCreadie and Dave Darland. Tony Stewart finished 15th.

The Engineers, who were 23rd before losing Saturday to Transylvania, are the only Indiana team getting votes and continue to lead the nation in scoring defense at 48.2 points per game.

Now 13-2, the Engineers play Wednesday at Franklin.



• Heartbreakers for John Paul II team — At Ryves Hall, Terre Haute’s John Paul II High School lost a 1-point game and an overtime contest Saturday in a CYO round-robin tournament.
